We’re going to Bulgaria!

June 20–27

This summer, Ezra and I have the opportunity to travel to Bulgaria with our church, Christ Church Birmingham, to partner with Mission Bulgaria as they serve the Roma community.

And for us, this is more than a mission trip.

It feels like a calling.

Why Bulgaria?

For the past several years, our family has participated in Mission Bulgaria’s Christmas outreach, packing shoeboxes filled with gifts for Roma children, praying over each one before sending them across the ocean.

But every year, something stirred in me.

What would it look like to not just send a box…
but to go?
To sit at the table?
To look into the eyes of the children we’ve prayed for?

The Roma people are often marginalized and overlooked across Europe. They face generational poverty, discrimination, and isolation. And yet, they are image-bearers of God. They are beloved. They are not forgotten.

The gospel has always moved toward the margins.

What We Will Be Doing?

Mission Bulgaria focuses on three core commitments:

Pray

We will pray that God pours out His love and favor over Bulgaria and the Roma people, not as an afterthought, but as a people deeply cherished by Him.

Love

James 2:17 reminds us that faith without action is dead.
So we go. We serve. We love in tangible ways. We will help with: Children’s ministry, Feeding programs, Local church services, Encouraging and supporting local leaders

Unite

Our hope is not just short-term service, but long-term unity, that Bulgarians and Roma would be united in Christ and with one another. That barriers would fall. That dignity would be restored. That the Church would reflect the Kingdom.

Why This Trip Matters to Us?

The Least of These

I’ve wanted my boys to see the world beyond our safe and comfortable rhythms.

To see that the Kingdom of God is not reserved for the well-off, the healthy, or the culturally comfortable — but open to all.

I want Ezra to see that following Jesus means moving toward people on the fringes. That loving “the least of these” isn’t abstract.

In Luke 5, Jesus didn’t just heal the leper. He touched him. That touch restored dignity.

If this trip does nothing else, I pray it forms something deep in my son, that he would grow into a man who sees the overlooked and moves toward them. And I pray it forms something deeper in me too.

Our Goal

The total cost for Ezra and me to go is $5,000. This covers: flights, lodging, ministry expenses, and travel logistics. If you feel led to support us financially, we would be so grateful.

If you feel led to pray, that may be even more powerful.
